On February 24th, 2026, a TUSD board meeting was held. The meeting was about TUSD approving a budget cut of $27M of saving plans, but it was voted to spare attendance and registration for all staff. There were some mixed feelings about the budget cut. Many were worried about losing their jobs and shared their reasons for why their roles are very important in their schools. Six proposals were approved, that includes: Elimination of all Regional Itinerant Substitute Teachers, Eliminates Customer Support Center & associated positions, Eliminates one Regional Asst Superintendent Office, Merge Multicultural Curr. & Culturally Relevant Pedagogy and Inst, Eliminate Senior Director of Magnet Programs position, and Direct the Budget Advisory Committee to begin the process to explore school consolidations and reconfigurations for the 2027-28 school year. The board made a tough decision and listened carefully to what people had to say and how they felt. The final vote was 0 to 5. A hiring freeze will remain in place through June 30, 2026.

At the next board meeting (to be held on March 10) we believe a vote is scheduled to determine whether to make administrative changes at schools to follow a 1:500 formula.  If enacted Sabino (and many other schools) would lost an assistant principal.
