The annual boys’ volleyball tournament at Arizona State University drew teams from across the region, full of skilled players, energy, team spirit, and competition. This year, Sabino varsity played in the Epic Tourney Invite on March 27th and March 28th. The players were excited to represent their school in the tournament and practiced hard to prepare for it.

Sabino’s first match was against a tough opponent, Goldwater. Sabino won, leaving players feeling excited and hopeful for the next games to come. This victory set the tone for the day, as the team moved into their next match against Cactus. Sabino secured another win, showing the hard work they had put in during their practices. At the end of the day, Sabino played ALA Ironwood and once again showed their teamwork on the court and brought home the win. Sabino went 3-0 on the first day of the tournament.
The following day, however, brought a different challenge when facing Ironwood Ridge. Sabino fought hard but ultimately fell short. This loss served as a valuable lesson for the team and made them determined to win their last game against McClintock. And with the last game of the tournament Sabino was able to win! Sabino went 1-1 on the second day of the tournament, leaving the team with a 4-1 record.
As the tournament wound down, the Sabino player Lance Moody reflected on his time at the tournament. Lance stated, “Personally, I feel that I played well. There are definitely some things that I can work on but overall, I would say I played to a level that I am proud of.” When asked what he is looking forward to in the rest of the season he said, “I am looking forward to seeing the team grow in skill and see everyone play to the best of their ability.” Currently, Sabino boys’ volleyball is 9-4 with 5 more games left in their season. Great job in the tournament and good luck in the rest of your season boys’ volleyball!
